How does one remove the lever from a quick release skewer?

It's from the Deore DX hub. Very similar to the one pictured above, but there is no circlip up inside the recess.

There is circlip at the end of lever (I used sharpened wire to take it off) simple! :)

I was so sure there wasn't, as I'd looked under the microscope at 40x magnification and it looked like it was a complete ring.... But when I went back to check, it turns out you're absolutely right, but there was a tiny bit of grease obscuring the gap! The gap is probably no more than a tenth of a millimeter across, so this is going to be fun!
