Oh dear, If it would defuse the situation and allow some sort of 'truce' so you can move on, it MAY be a small but awkward price to pay.

Have you considered applying for a shotgun licence ?. A bit of weekend clay pigeon shooting in the back garden helps remind the neighbours that telling someone to **** off is sometimes not the best idea.
 
So hang on, you went over to ask them to park better, they told you to f*** off, then they came over, rang your doorbell and berated you -- and you have to apologise? Am I missing something?

It does beg the question, why bring it up in the first place? Hindsight and all that, but we're experienced enough (nee old enough) to know how events can play out. A bit of a pause and think helps tremendously, and can save a bunch of wasted, often negative, energy.
