How can I replicate a GT paintjob?

put your decals on first Rob and mask them out and the do the stripes?
it's how I didn't destroy the fork decals, and the thicker the rod/spoke whatever the thicker the stripes also warm up the hamerite first its dead easy ,

if you take it to a good sign writer that does brush pin striping he should be able to do something reasonably similar to the original style,

Good luck mate

I have an urge to paint a GT frame in something like the original paintjobs that were available in 1992. My Tequesta (black with white stripes - is that Daktari?) is what I would like to re-do, but in different colours.

I can get the base colour done easily with powder-coat, and obviously a top coat of lacquer, but how do I do the stripes? I can't really tell if the paint was dribbled on from a height or a paint brush was used. Also the type of paint I need to use is important too.

If you haven't inspected a frame from that era I'll let you know that you can actually feel the stripes on the paintwork, so there is a decent thickness of paint.

My Tequesta:

I like the Avalanche paint too - its more like a sponged effect on top which may be easier - please post a pic if you have a close-up of that finish!

Wow. The paint on that bike looked like new.

If I was you, I'd have a chat with the the local auto painter.

It might be a hand job.

How about using a syringe?

One of those large ones like a disk brake bleed size.

Fill with (may need thinning slightly) paint, and squirt from a distance whilst waggling it about.

Just thinking out loud.

Hand Jobs?
Squirting?
Waggling it about?

Oh My Days!
I'm off for a lie down

this thread is taking a turn for the disgusting....

on a more 'on topic' note, didnt a chap do a similar job with a Alpinestars frame on here a while back? he did those squiggly lines himself:

and he seems to do this for a living as well....

perhaps some help could be found from this chap.
