Hope Ti-Glide Question

Refurbing a newly acquired Hope Ti-Glide hub and want to double check ... is it right that the freehub simply pushes on and off the hub body and axle without any locking mechanism? I've checked the maintenance documents on here and that seems to be the case but seems strange that the only thing holding the freehub with cassette onto the axle is the dropout ... what am I missing?

On early versions the drive side end cap has a small grub screw which tightens on to the axle.

On later versions the drive side end cap has an o-ring inside which sits in a groove on the axle.

Use plenty of grease on it as if it dries out it becomes quite hard to get the end cap off.

Pretty much a mallet on the NDS to knock it off, normally I would say so it in an ice-cream tub or something to catch the springs and pawls.
Except most are old, worn and jammed and you pry them out now.

Earlier freehub bodies had a circlip holding bearing inside the freehub body, watch out for that.

There is a diagram showing you how to do that hammering too.

Thanks both … mine’s the later o-ring end cap … just felt odd given all my experience with Shimano that it’s not fixed in some way.

Next problem is that the freehub is binding when reinstalling the wheel and tightening the QR … think I might be missing a seal between the hub and freehub …

If this the rear wheel binding, check it's not too much pressure from the freewheel lock ring as some kinds can be too deep for the hope hubs. Try a different freewheel lock ring if so or swap freewheel for one with more clearance.

There is a spacer for in between the hub bearing and freehub. Bad things can happen if this is missing.

Already checked … it’s binding with only the freehub body without cassette and lock ring …

Thanks … yeah I think this is what I am missing … but now the challenge to find a replacement spacer …
