Hope specialists - NEW QUESTION pg2

Re: Hope specialists

Sent my front 2 year old Tech M4 to em as the pistons seized while I wasn't riding it. Noticed some fork fluid on them and had probably been there a month and a half. Anyway got them back yesterday, not bad cos I posted them Tuesday. Like new again and spotless with new pads. Marvellous.

Consider if you will what Hope actually do for the £40.

Caliper- New seals and new pistons and new pads.
Given the caliper only has seals/pistons/pads in a cnc shell then youve replaced everything so its about as good a s new(The pistons are plastic, forget wear to the bore of the caliper,it just aint going to happen ;) )

Lever assembly- New seals, new piston, new diaphragm plus all fittings bolts and circlips .Basically all the internals replaced in a cnc shell so its about as good as new(also as above the inside is alloy and the piston has a rubber seal that moves along it,aint going to wear ;) )

Then of course the professionally bleed the system with new fluid ,I think if you added up all the components in the lever and caliper then added the retail costs of fluid and pads(what are hope resin pads retail ? £15 abouts. this leaves £25 per brake for Hope to replace EVERYTHING Plus strip clean(blast through with dry air) reassemble and bleed.
Roughly worked out using lbs prices for labour and parts. it appears they do thses services for pennies,in fact its closer to them paying you to service your brakes

Im about to send a pair of monos to them .This week ill send one and in 2 weeks or so ill send the other. . Eighty quid is eighty quid but spreading it out helps :?

PS Also please note you will be doing all the work yourself ;) that will take loads of time,i mean even getting the pistons out can be a challenge and im sure some parts might be trickier to remove without the proper tool it might even be Hope make their own dooda tools to aid removal. All of which you dont have.

Chief. I think you might well be right.

Something else to take note of ;)
Remember C2''s ? Fing brilliant brake but hope no longer service them and no longer have any of the parts in stock. In fact finding them anywhere is difficult at best, especially things like pistons
The Mini is the 3rd gen above O2[which they wont/cant service either] I would get these done now before they stop servicing them through lack of spares. Once they're done they'll last for years.
To this end i am buying things like mono mini pistons etc ,saved for that rainy day when someone comes up to you with a tear in their eye and cap in hand.So they can be sent home with a Beaming smile :D

Re: Hope specialists

Took the levers and calipers off the bike tonight. Parcel them up and off to hope tomorrow. Fingers crossed..

Not that I think it matters greatly, but your rear disc is mounted back to front.

Someone mentioned this ages ago which led to a bit of a debate. The nice people at Hope sorted it out though...

Hello Rick, when we manufactured this model we did indeed run them the
way you have shown us in the photo.

Many thanks
Nick

Re: Hope specialists

That's interesting because the hope discs on the hope UBS on my XtC950 came assembled t'other way. That said, I don't think it matters. I think the spokes of the disc are designed in such away so we don't get warp age when the disc gets hot but the carrier portion stays cool. Don't think its anything to do with braking forces or owt.

Re: Hope specialists

To be honest, I thought they were supposed to go the other way and have always run them that way.

Can't argue with what Hope say though!

Re: Hope specialists

Hope said it was something to do with the spokes being in tension not compression when braking....

I always ran mine that way too....

So, I've got this headset on my Epic. It's a hope, not sure of the year...

I was in the process of changing the forks tonight and notice the crown race was damaged on the outgoing fork. So I need to replace it. But I don't know which one..

CRC has what looks like the right race but there's two listed: old style/new style.

Any help appreciated.
