Holdsworth Mistral build

I ordered the YST threadless bottom bracket (heavy!) and got the chamfering tool as well.
I went for black Cinelli cork tape in the end.

I also got a reply from the guy selling the Golden Arrow wheelset! Pick up this Friday evening.

So hopefully Saturday morning everything will be up and running!

Re:

Was just checking what wheels you ended up with? I have just bought a set of 700c wheels and thinking about which bike to put them on and was wondering how your looked with the 700c? I am still struggling to understand which are actually bigger! If you have any photos that would be great!! :)

as far as I know 700c are smaller than 27" because you'll need longer reach brakes when you do the switch.

Btw I actually just build it up!! It's missing a few things, but I was able to do a quick spin around the block!
The wheels you'll see in the pictures soon are not the final ones. The rear one came from the Gazelle and the front one from the Venom, also the handlebar white tape is temporary and it's missing the cable ends (you see some red tape).

Pictures are in the album from here:

Re:

Very nice! Like it a lot. So stupidly I decided to check what wheels I have and whilst I always thought (presumed) I have 27” wheels I in fact have 700c. I am leaving it as it is for now. I have spent way too much on it and will just enjoy it as it is. Very nice bike you have there and glad to hear it rides as well as it looks.

This has been my first build from scratch. It's been fun and learned a lot.
Next time it'll happen something like this will have to keep a strong eye on expenses. Particularly on checking what you buy before committing to them.

Very easy to go out of budget and I did. At times you get great deals but often you end up paying small fortunes for little pieces that are hard to find.

Anyway very pleased with the end result and soon it'll be completed.

As for the wheelset it turned out the skewers were missing and one rim is dented. Spokes have seen a lot but seem fine.

So now they are at local lbs for a check and truing but this means more money and more Internet scavenging for those skewers.

Found them in Switzerland but at £25+£15 for shipping it's one of those small fortunes!!!
So either I wait or I try to make N lffer

Thanks!!

Put on different wheels and took her for a spin.

Really like it. Need to adjust brakes/gearing, but I'm happy of what I've done.
From rusty frame to full bike, my first restoration project went thru some issues, but ended up in a lovely bike.

I also like the handling, seems fine, but will do proper testing hopefully this weekend.

I am still waiting to put on the Shimano Golden Arrow wheelset, but this will be the final look. I wanted more contrast (white saddle, white handlebars), but I'm still pleased with this result:

I went to work on the Mistral today.
Enjoyed the ride a lot! Very very happy on how she rides.
Bumps are smoothed, ride is quick and comfy. A pure joy.

Should be able to pick up the wheels today, but looks like one of the rims is dented, if it is too much I'll have to rebuild the wheels.

But the bike is just amazing.
