His bikes

I recently (last July already) bougth a Eddy Merckx Starnord. Not restored yet by me. Probably this winter. However a quite more simple type of bike then yours, but anyway, in the same nice purple colour. Thanks for sharing yours, it will be an inspiration for mine.... Regards, Marco ;)

When you acquire a lot of parts donor bikes you inevitably end up with many parts that are too modern for your own projects, but also too good to just throw away.

One day you find have enough to build a modern-ish bike for your girl. :)

The black chainset and rear derailleur I bought new, to sort of tie it all together visually. The 38mm Hutchinson tyres officially make it a Gravel Bike.

Could have bought a very nice Reynolds or Columbus frameset for the price, but didn't. Bought this instead: a French Robust of indeterminate tubing.

Because SHINY!

I spent quite a bit of time getting the bar tape color where I wanted it:

It is not particularly light, partly because of the rather heavy touring wheels, but it rides very smoothly. Its first multi-day cycling trip to Belgium got it the RBotM award in February '22.

Another buy where size and colour, rather than perceived quality, were the deciding factors.

A Jacques Anquetil frameset with a strong Belgian vibe. I have been told that the Destoop firm in Ghent had a license to sell Anquetil-branded bicycles, and that Martens of Zwevezele provided the frames for those.

It has the most unusual Reynolds decal. I've never seen another one:

The first build was with a Campagnolo Nuovo Record transmission, which worked with the desired gearing for L'Eroica, but only just:

So for the next trip to Italy I changed to a Simplex and Stronglight setup, which I liked better on this machine:
