Hill climbing advice

In the scenario where you don't have lockout and you're "honking" out the saddle a FS would lose out to a rigid.

I thought we were talking sustained climbing though and thus you're in the saddle unless you're on a single speed or on the black stuff.

If the trails are well groomed smooth items then a hardtail/rigid will be faster, but there is a point though where traction is much more important and stiff light weight bikes are at a disadvantage.

For a lot of the trails I ride my Turner 5 Spot will out climb just about anything and something like the DOGS BOLX is not even close to getting near it. Horses for courses though

I automatically think single speed style these days, it's pretty much all I ride.

I agree about climbing up the bumpy stuff, the FS should track better than a HT.

Quicker up, quicker down. It's on the flat bits the FS loses out.

my proflex 856 climbs like a beast, aslong as i keep pedaling the thing!!!
