Help... Trying to identify my new retro Marin

Hi all.

New member here so be nice! Lol.

Just bought a "Marin B17" frame but I can't prove it other than the sellers description.
How can I found out what year and model this bike is? Is it available from the frame number or is there any other identifying marks?
It looks like it has been sprayed at some point and seems to have multiple age Marin font stickers.

I have some plans for this in my head but also looking for ideas from you experts.
Colour scheme?
Ideal spec?

Any other thoughts? Happy to hear them.

How did you come to that conclusion? Is there some sort of identifying features?

I've owned a few. Rear disc mount is a clue to its age along with the shape of the tubing

Marin decals from across the years. Looks like a 1997 Rift Zone, wrong rear end for a 2000.
Have you the frame number?

Been reading a lot of posts on here.

Looks like a 2000 B17 to me, based on these pics.

Its the mount where the shock connects to the main frame, can't find another that has the same series of holes.

Will the frame number tell me what the bike actually is? Is there a frame number decoder somewhere?
