Help: Trek 800 Retro??

Dirt Disciple
Hi, got back into MTB's again after a few years, started a few months back on a old school Holdsworth Pro 531c Road Bike, however a friend kindly gave me his old Trek 800 as he got a new Kona FM. So my question is what year is this model it seems to go quite well. It has Shimano STX RC kit with a mixture of other bits. After having a thrash through the local woods i now remember why i went to the dark side the first time!!! I want to upgrade a few bits to try and get the weight down a bit. Any info helpful. Cheers

If STX-RC is original that dates the frame easily as they changed it from year to year, but you'll need to grab the model code form the component
MC36 or similar.

But the colour says it's 1998
Mediterranean blue/ice inkwell fade with white decals if that sounds about right.
So you have a Modern bike there ;)

So it a budget bike , STX-RC is the upgrade to the bike.

Cheers Fluffy.

That helps. Sooo would it be worth putting the kit on another frame? Changing things like seatpost, saddle, stem, chainset?

Also back in the day I used to ride a Klein Rascal Red to Black fade with manitou suspension forks. Which was nice. I had Gripshift when it first came into the country!! It was crap!! So went back to XT thumbies. I also had a Specialized Stumpy Comp with black Project Two Forks which was probably my favourite mountain bike ever, I would love another.

Those were the days!!

Thank you for this post, particularly useful to me as I picked one up yesterday. Now I know it’s date which is nice, and I’m hunting for upgrades
