Help please - Steel GT serial numbers

Thanks @kingoffootball 👍 I assume I've captured all the numbers correct?! Thanks for making take a proper look second time around. There's a few other 1990 Team Avalanche's on here, have they given you their frame numbers to compare with mine?

It definitely all looks correct and the clear photos help a lot.
I only have the details for one other 1990 Team Avalanche, so if anyone else would like to chare theirs it would be much appreciated. It would be interesting to see whether any have the same format as yours to help work out patterns.

Not sure what the sticker is/was, maybe something to do with racing ?...the bike had an old timing chip still attached when I got it... mine has the format 9002 0020250 showing that it was made in Feb 1990

No idea about the sticker. Timing chip? Must have been in a big posh race at some stage to have one of those fitted. I guess I need to sort mine out one day, but currently it's tucked away in the garage whilst life gets in the way...

Yep, PhillB's matches the usual formats much more closely, so is what I expected from yours. As I understand it, the 002 should relate to where the model is in the range. This means for yours it is equivalent to the 02 (which would be strange because it is on the other side of the BB) or equates to the 003 - that could be because of changes to the range.

It could relate to whether there was just the Xizang above it or later the Xizang and the Cyclone (bearing in mind the Cyclone [later Psyclone] took over what the Xizang was when it was first released). There's some helpful information in this thread:

https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/gt-xizang-1989-fillet-brazed-steel.333541/
but it would be really helpful to work out the month and year 27motorhead's frame was made. If the 003 is for the model, then the 02 could be the month of production, but there doesn't appear to be a year. However, given the paint we might assume it could only be 90, which doesn't help at all with the differences in frame number format.

I don't have any evidence of the frame numbers being different for different sizes, but it is possible.
