Help needed Sun Worksop bike

A newbie saying hello and asking for your wisdom.

I have just picked up a Sun Worksop race bike with a view to restoring and beautifying into my daily commuter ride.


The serial number on the left side downpipe is 196655. I have looked all over the net to find the year and model this relates to but it's like banging my head against a brick wall....any ideas and help very gratefully received

There’s a list of the date codes in this thread, but there’s usually a letter denoting the year. Have you got any pics of the bike? Specifically the lugs, bottom bracket area and where that number is.
