Help ID'Ing Vintage CB

Hi all

Would someone be able to help me ID this bike I'm intending on selling for my dad? Unfortunately I only have a photo of the headtube but it seems to be quite a rare pattern.



I found this ad online that seems similar but I believe the one I have has always had gears.

This is the best site for CB, Holdsworth & Freddie Grubb identification. Get the frame number, look it up under “Frame number” and then look at the catalogue. The forks should also have the serial number on the stem.

I have a 1959 CB European which has the same lug and also cantilever brakes. These were only made for 2 years, 1959-1960.
Holdsworth bought CB July 1958.
Your cantilevers are later Shimano’s so have been put on later, you need the frame number to date it.
The headbadge Is shown in the 1961 catalogue (under Holdsworth ownership) with yellow bottom left ring. The 1959 catalogue states “The text implies that the Claud Headplate is already being fitted, though pics do not show it. The European looks to have a seat tube decal applied on the head tube, as on the very earliest Holdsworthy Clauds”.

Got some more photos Also found another bike! Re. the white bike above, the serial number on the fork is 6246. From what I can see that dates it around 1948 but still no idea of type and value. And help much appreciated

Re your serial number on the fork, I don’t think you know that the fork is original as it has cantilever bosses brazed on. Can you find another serial number elsewhere? Bottom bracket?

The top of the seat stays looks nice too, that might provide some more clues? Can’t see it well enough in these photos.

Hi Wings. Fairly certain they are the original forks. My dad had someone do a bit of "upgrade" work on it a while back (30+ yrs) which I'm fairly certain included adding on various brazing for modern fittings. I did check the bottom bracket but nothing there.
