Now I have your attention, yes I do need help!

Recently I bought some suntour Xc pro thumb shifters for my next Kona build..... However I've never had these before and getting a bit confused as both sides click lots, where I thought one side would only click max of 3 times for front mech!?

If someone has an "idiots" guide (asking for a friend 🤣🤣) as to how I set these up for 21 speed please 🙏🏼

It depends on the version you have. Some were just plain 7sp, another version allowed you to switch between 7 and 8 by a turn of the dial. There are usually markings indicating 7sp and friction or 7sp/8sp and friction respectively.

The front shifter has lots of micro-clicks to aid trimming the mech between ratios where it may catch on the front mech cage.

Here are some. Quick snaps for reference...

The front mech ones have a more positive click sound...one that I'm used to,but over on the left side which will operate rear mech has a more quiet less positive click sound.

The 7spd side probably has grease thickened over time. Either strip and clean, then fresh grease or the lazy way, is spray with gt85.

So...just to be certain we are talking the right right right...

The left hand front shifter should not have positive clicks.....they are friction only.....they will have lots of very tiny "clicks" where it runs over the friction pattern inside.

The right rear shifter will either be 6 very definite clicks on 7 speed OR will have some feeling if its in friction mode.

Unlike xt there is nothing really to grease/ clean our..... if they move and are put together right they will work however stiff they may be.
