I just did a silly! I bought a handlebar thinking it was 31.8 (didnt realise they made them any bigger) turns out the handlebar was 35mm

Anyone else know this? XD

Yup

31.8 has been around far too long for the marketing folk so 35mm will be the new 'standard'

(had a 31.8mm quill stem from ITM from around 1991)

Hahaha! It’s surely all to do with sales right? As ive never seen a retro handlebar snap metal ones anyway :L

Apparently if you chuck a bike off a cliff in Utah you need them thicker....so of course everybody doing wheelies in tesco car park desperately need them too.

Funny how the motorcross world always seemed to survive on 7/8"..... not like they are 15x the weight or anything....

35mm. Becuase you all got to used to running short stems and we needed a way of hiding that youd need a bigger offset.

Anyone want to buy my new, half cranked swept back low rise bar deosgned to put the bars back where you had them 6 years ago.

True that: been trying out one of those short stems - 130mm - and the steering is crazy : prolly going to have to increase my bar width towards 600mm ....
