GT Xizang Serial number thread

I encountered the great delight yesterday when removing the rear wheel that the QR skewer nut (old hope) hits the rear mech (M739 XT) and won't allow the wheel to come out without removing the skewer nut, fantastic. Anybody else got this issue, or filed the front corner of the dropout to allow the wheel to come out (I was advised against this due to work hardening)?

It's there you just have too much paint, try getting good light on it.

No luck finding anything with the torch......I am looking at stripping it back to the Ti finish, so will see then what it is.....

I'd look into soda blasting to leave a good finish afterwards!

Cable routing for rear brake cantis on Xizang -97?

My recently purchased Xizang got production number:

GTX9724.

Original stickers gone, accept from front white GT sticker and Titanium alloy type sticker above BB.

I need help with cable routing and placement of a barrel adjuster for the rear cantis. The welded loop canti' hanger mount doesn't make any sense to me.

Would some one be so kind to link to a foto that shows the original setup? Brake studs is positioned for cantis/v-brakes and not u-brakes :)

Cheers,

-Lui

Tektro makes the hangers and they work just fine. You've got a barrel adjuster on your brake lever there's no need for one in the back. Now get that thing built and post up some pictures for the rest of us to enjoy :D

Hey gtRTSdh. I just noticed you were noting "U-Brake" or not on your serial number list. My old '92 Xizang LE, which is number 16 on your list, was definitely a U-Brake model.

Also, back in the day I had a friend who owned an all XC-Pro build Xizang LE of the same year and size as mine. His serial number was G16059. His was also U-Braked...

The U-Brakes worked amazing on those old GTs. Heavy... but strong, solid, squeal-free and reliable. I'm sure the ST weaved routing made all the difference.
