Re:

i'm curious if the high bidder will actually pay.

2000 pounds is rather steep.

(makes me appreciate my 94 frame project even more)

p.s. I notice bikes seem to be rather more expensive in the UK. I was wondering if that was really the case, or if Brits simply appreciate fine quality bikes more than Americans do.

You can defo pic up some amazing deals in the states but they are hard to find and even harder to be able to get the seller to ship to the UK as there seems to be a lot of scamming & spamming. You really have to be looking hard to find what your after. Ive picked up some amazing deals and managed to get them shipped (seems to be cheeper for them to ship to the UK with the right dimensions rather us ship to them - 3 times the costs... So from $65/70 up to $300). You then have to get it passed customs with out getting slammed with Duty (i have a couple tricks). One thing that really gets me is that they Charge Duty on the Shipping along with the Cost of the bike. A lot of people don't even know what they have and sell for a great price.

Now time for the confession... I was the winner of the auction... I didn't except to go that high and didn't want to loose it as I've been after a mint 16" for 2/3 years. Im not looking looking to flip it and i know it went for a lot more than it should. There were two other bidders that weren't far off. I was expecting to pay 1800 max...

Re:

wow - you brits are taxed to death.

Anyway - good luck with the bike - I completely understand the feeling as I wouldn't mind knowingly paying more for something I have been chasing.

The operative word is "knowingly". Sometimes people throw in unreasonably high bids and then develop buyer's remorse.

--- on a related note - does anyone know where I can pick up accurate 1994 xizang decals? (The orange lettering - not the blue/yellow colors). I feel guilty i've had the frame sitting in a box for years now.

Thanks Ill be breaking it down as soon as i get it and parting out anything not wanted... Its the most I've ever paid for a bike... I bought 2 fully built Lobos (1 Nos and the other 8/10) shipped to me for $800. If i didn't have my best mate in the states to do a help out theres no way i would of got them for the price... Its the 1st bike I've bought in the UK. I won't be doing that again... There are definitely amazing deals to be had over there as long as the shipping is minimum and duty is at it minimal. Also the shipper you use is very important. Some of them open the boxes and check on the net what the bike is worth (If that happens your in trouble $$$).

Ebay has a new feature its forced on its long suffering sellers in the shape of something called the global shipping program. seller sends it to a forwarding center run by ebay and they ship it on from there to its final destination. Any problems from there on are ebays . TBH i think this is probably theyre best idea for buyers yet.
I picked up a nos C2 for not a lot and the seller was only normally US posting only.

I bought something via that method, it sold very cheap and otherwise the seller wouldn't have posted to the UK.

Congratulations mate... Just goes to show high or low, market value is what someone is willing to pay. don't know anything about gts but am guessing the 16" is the rare bit in all of this?
