GT triple triangle. what do I have?

Just picked this up, and I'm not too sure what I have. The dropouts say 7005 and H4H08695 . Lovingly welded out of aluminum, and reeally light. Zaskar? Pantera? Every Avalanche I've seen has the gusset under the downtube.

Not sure what I'm gonna do to it yet. My heart wants to make it a BMX style cruiser. I love the bare aluminum; GT sure made some pretty frames in the 90s...

def not a Zaskar, serail number and top tube end cap say so. Its got the welded on noodle bit for the rear brake, guess would be 94/95 something (replaceable hanger [maybe 96 they moved to single bolt] will give more info and some wil be along soon with that info)

i had a backwoods that was just like this. Got a sneaker they were all the same frames, arrowhead/backwoods/pantera etc

So, from what I've gathered, Pantera and Backwoods frames are the same (which I believe this is), and Avalanche and Arrowhead frames are the same (with the gusset on the dt). Zaskar frames, with the flat end cap, and diiferent serial#s are unique in the GT line. the H4H.... serial # on mine means it's a 1994 made in Taiwan.

Correct?

I'm really torn between putting a 1x8 gear setup or ss conversion. 90% of it's time will be on the road, and I kinda want it to be more than a neighborhood cruiser. But dynamically. traditionally, and aesthetically....my BMX heart beats ss.

Arrowhead was cheapest and avalanche most expensive.

The gusset location was more a year thing. I think it moved from top tube to down tube around 96 or so. Worth checking the catalogues

Zaskar - 6061 made and welded in in America

Avalanterawoods - 7005 made in Taiwan with an AK47 and a pulse welder

It looks like my old 95 tempest. Could be an avalanche. I still think it's worth polishing and building.

Ha, I thought the welds look quite pretty compared to some of the more recent garbage I've seen.

I like the dull bare aluminium look; gives it a road warrior appeal. Trying to do this as cheaply as possible, using mostly used parts.
