Well after a lot of hammering, unscrewing and general bashing (as well as reading up on bike servicing on this site!) the Talera is finally in bits and stripped back to the frame!!
As you can see, I made a healthy start on stripping the matt black spray paint off her. Alas, it seems that it was also taking the top coat of the original finish off too as the below (kind of) shows...
So, its off to the powdercoating place! Been quoted £20 for F and F (!) AND they run a trials bike business on the side so do loads of bike frames which means they should know what they are doing. You'll see the results here first!
Now, I have two upcoming dilemmas. Firstly, the BB that was in the Talera is and old cup and cone type...
Should I service this and put it back in or just get a 'fit and forget' sealed unit? I like the romance of the old unit, but I imagine it is going to be a nightmare to service, refit and re-align? PRetty much answered my own question there, but opinions more than welcome!
Also, the wheels are looking in a very sorry state...
I am actually considering stripping them down to give them a really good scrub and service then putting them back together to get them running true and looking shiny to match the frame. Is this a massive job??
Onwards and upwards!
