GT RTS 1 Rear Brake Query

.

I have kindly been offered a nylon roller by Mr Kase of this parish - once it arrives I'll try the 'original' route first. Pickle has donated the item pictured. I have a F-40 but cannot see how that will work as the cable braze on's are on the 'wrong' side for th entry point into the F-40 (I guess they're for front brakes).

More as and when.

The original nylon thingy will work and wont require frame modification but it is inferior to either the Farce 40 or the donated part. The Farce 40 should work with some creative but easily do-able cable re-routing (as will the donated part) as mentioned above but the donated widget is far and away the best way to go if you are looking for adequate rear brake action. The Farce 40 uses the same concept as the donated widget (which I think was made by Suntour?) but it just doesnt work as well for some reason. Maybe the decreased leverage or the spring tension, not sure. I think I had to place one of the canti arms in the higher tension hole on the brake mounting stud to overcome the additional load of the brake rocker arm while the opposite canti arm was in the standard spring tension hole. If you have the minerals to mod your frame I highly suggest using the donated silver rocker arm for superior braking performance on the original RTS frames. I worked in a shop that carried C-dales and am all too familiar with the Farce 40 and it just wasnt that great. Seemed like it constantly needed tinkering. Having tried all three options myself, thats my $.02

Cheers

RTS rear braking

Hi, I used to have the 'widget' on my old RTS2 and this worked much better than the standard roller thingy. I think you have to either add spacers or file the post down for it to work properly, but worth the effort, as you can then actually use the rear brake as more than just a hand rest.
