Gripshift SRT versions?

No, bearing in mind Sturmey Archer did it for their 3 speed on the Grifter. Gripshift had the original MTB design circa 89/90, then refined it into the stuff talked about above for the 1993 model year iirc.
Sachs also developed something. SRAM became what was Sachs/sedis & then acquired Gripshift.

I think I'm right, but it went something like that.

Re:

Apart from SRAM was the company and GripShift was the brand ;-)
One and the same company!

So SRAM (which is GripShift) was SRAM, SRAM then bought/merged Sachs ~`97, and then bought/merged with RockShox in ~`02 and then...

First ever?
They started with a road/cyclocross version first and brought it across to MTB a bit later. (A the same time Shimano blew open the shifter market with RapidFire, lucky break from SRAM really)

Campaign had the Bullet shifter at the same time (who was first I don't know).
But there are many years of cycling before that, no doubt a twist shift was used before.

Re:

Didn’t merge with RockShox, gave them a loan then called it in, RS couldn’t pay so they acquired them in return... slightly sneaky tbh....

Re:

I couldn't remember exacts, quite often they call them 'mergers' no matter how they are acquired ;-)

They probably call it 'taking them under their wing to look after them'. They do seem to have done quite well (they being the rock shox name).

Re:

Bought this 94 Specialized for £17 back in May this year off Splatter Paint.
This will my project for the winter months, I'm looking for Grip Shift replacements as per my Wanted post, the current type I believe are SRT200 which are 18-speed shifters, does it matter if they are replaced with SRT400/SRT600?

Re:

I know the SRT 600 was 7-speed as I have some on a bike, (maybe even a later 8-speed version?). Although I would imagine they would work on a 6-speed cassette.
If you just need the twist shifter grips you can pick those up, I recently bought some from a RB member for my 3x7 speed SRT-600 Shifters.

I might have some spare Gripshift around. I'll look today...

Edit : they're Sram MRX 170-71, 3x7-speed, just the shifters with twist grips, grips look in decent condition. If they're any use to you just drop me a PM.

The actual shifters work fine it's just the rubber twist grip itself that are really worn out, looks like they had the S logo on them originally, did you mean they can be changed & well as the handlebar grips?

Yes, the grip on the twist shifter part can be changed by itself, they slide on/off and stay in place with a few ridges that fit with the plastic shifter part.
I recently bought some NOS ones from a member on here, they were ATI branded, but there's loads of different brands that did replacement grips.
I'll have a Gripshift branded one spare if you need it, I'm replacing both the grips but only the right one is worn.

Re:

Here's the replacement grips I got...

And the naked Gripshift...

According to Bicyclebluebook.com my newly acquired Proflex Attack LE has Gripshift 450s. They too have the multi click left shifter. TBH it seems like a necessity otherwise the chain clicks against the front mech.
I've managed to somehow avoid twist grip shifters in my MTB life until now but after one ride I think they have their merits. Ultimately, though, the better option won the game.
