Great news. Ebay drops seller charges!

Has anyone noticed the price of the buy it now items have now had the buyer fees added ?

All the items I’m watching have increased in price by 5% or less it seems to give odd numbers.

For example some tyres I’m watching were £150 and now are £156.72

A bike is now £1944.72 as it was £1900.
I noticed this this morning. The introduction of a 'Buyer Protection Fee', what alchemy is this? Or should I say scam?

I.e: I've made an offer for an item and if accepted an X amount BPF is added at the checkout.

It makes the BIN price look ridiculous and you have to calculate the protection fee to be competitive if you're going to price match competition. I had a good moan at eBay but it won't result in anything...

*edited as I misunderstood who pays*

So is it shown separately on the "invoice" when you check out? Or is to be rolled into the bin price on the screen?

This now makes sense to me thanks. My friend sells things I want rid of as he does lots and is posting things out most days anyway. I saw the prices now looked a bit strange and thought he was just trying to make a tiny bit of extra random money on the prices I quoted, you can see the BIN prices have changed from a couple of weeks back and gone up a bit. Vinted do the same thing

As someone who uses Vinted now and again, it's obvious the recent developments at eBay are all pretty much taken directly from Vinted's model. The only difference I can see is that on Vinted they display the 'base' price and also what the price is with the 'buyer protection fee' added (which is what you actually pay seeing as it's not like you can opt out of it) - but eBay have just added this new fee as part of the BIN price.

The next step will be the fully integrated postage part of the Vinted model, although I don't recall if eBay are doing it quite the same way, where the buyer has more control over that than the seller does.

Applies only to private sellers' items (not those registered as business sellers), buyer 'protection' fees = 4% for first £300 and 2% applied above that up to £4000 asking price, plus a flat fee of 75p
