Great news. Ebay drops seller charges!

Bit frustrated. Has my first return request in years. Sold a carbon fork and three weeks later the buyer requests a return showing me a large scratch on the fork. I'm not 100% sure it wasn't there and I've got no evidence to prove it wasn't, so I guess I'm just going to have to suck it up.

There's another major eBay change in Q1 this year too: 'Simple Delivery' https://www.valueaddedresource.net/ebay-simple-delivery-managed-shipping/ which will take away seller choice on carrier in many (all?) categories for private sellers, which isn't good for those based remotely/with disabilities (no collections). Not yet clear on impact of selling bikes as package size may exceed the max designated by their chosen carrier(s). This thread's title 'Great News' isn't particularly well chosen given aforementioned, the switch to buyer fees, introduction of promotional costs for sellers to increase visibility-and that's all in a context of declining visits to eBay.co.uk (Jan 2025 is down, -20% vs Jan 2022), and the end of cash on collection in all but Cars, Vehicles, Motorcycles category which was helpful for large/bulky items where later returns could be a nightmare for sellers.

When i sell on ebay (or here) i simply include the item in my daily Royal Mail bulk postage. However if they try to force other carriers I will simply not sell on ebay as I'm not driving around to different drop points. It reads like you can still select custom postage and add your own though.

With you on that. I just want them to turn up, put labels on and take them away.

It's a bit like that ill conceived plan ebay had 10 or 15yrs ago to limit postal charges.. folks were overcharging on postage and pocketing the difference which eBay didn't like, but it sounds like they'll now be doing the exact same thing

Before we had a plethora of terrible shipping companies and before RM was online, you would get a print out from the PO of shipping costs, you would list an item for lets say £200 but the max ebay would allow for shipping in that catagory would be £4 so it either had to go uninsured, 2nd class, or you had to pay the additional postage costs out of your own pocket..

They keep trying to streamline, if ideas work, they keep them, if profits fall they drop them.

The latest change to ebay payouts may prove to be a bit of a pain in the a$$.

From 4th Feb you can expect to not be able to withdraw funds until 48hrs after the item has been received. I'm yet to experience this (though do have funds waiting for withdrawal and an item not yet marked as delivered).
Today I've just sold and item and noticed the payment is pending and due in my ebay balance by 25th Feb! That'll be considerably more than 48hrs after the item will have been received.

Not too much of a drama personally, but for those needing to release funds quickly, or wanting the buyers payment to cover shipping costs in order to send the item, I think ebay are being a bit unreasonable here.

Once the item is delivered itll be in your ebay balance the next day. Sold a few items since the change last week

The 25th reference is for when it'll go in your account if you don't send it tracked and have the delivered marker.

Yeah I'm expecting it to play out differently - especially as the item (a bike) is being collected this evening, and have told the buyer to bring their collection qr/code
