Goodbye to ebay !

Hmmm, I'm not sure, because I definitely had that happen and they were demanding about £1.50 for quite some time until they admitted it should be refunded. Maybe they/Paypal tightened something up to allow them to take it after that.

However, if you sell under non-promotional times, isn't the ebay fee 10% and PayPal 3.50% ish, i.e. 13.5% in total? So the ebay managed route at 12.5% is cheaper, no?

Yes it is, but only works out something like .01% cheaper, you have to also pay a 30p transaction fee, the same as you did to pp. Apparently it is quite a bit cheaper for larger cost items or big shops, which is what it is aimed at.

Also the time limit for someone to return an item (sometimes after using or breaking it) and claim money back is 28 days with ebay, with pp it was 180!

Another thing is it has been out for about a year, it is only now that everyone who hasn't already signed up to it has to. They should have most issues, i say most as it is ebay after all, sorted.

The massive difference is that its your personal home bank account, not your PayPal account. I use my PayPal account like a small money box. Yes ebay could raid it, but only up to whats in it......not much. This was then fed to paypal by a credit card only used for that purpose. Quite a few hoops to get anywhere near my " home" bank.

Allow direct access. No way .

The ebay user agreement you signed gives ebay permission to claim monies owed from you funding source, eg pp, if there are insufficient funds in your pp account pp will take the rest from your bank account to pay the request, unless you have specified that payments come direct from your bank account for pp purchases.

If you do not want to use your personal bank account just open another just for ebay.

Well ive had to supply all the banking details to ebay, and it is similar to that of paypal, but i am under no illusion that it is nothing more than greed on their part, in that they are holding monies in an attempt to gain interest off it, and have been left feeling vulnerable by their new and constantly changing practices.
I no longer feel comfortable about selling on ebay, and feel they couldnt give a rats 4r5e about that one way or the other.

Yes, you are correct, though they will make slightly less extra than pp used to off of your sales they make god knows how much interest holding payments in their account for a couple of days, though most banking transactions can hold money for interest purposes.

They are a business first and foremost, little regard for personal feelings these days, though the people are what actually make them a business, foot and shoot spring to mind :)
