George Longstaff 26" wheel Touring Bike.
Reynolds 531 Designer Select tubes with Reynolds 531 forks.
Frame No: GL 1253 - 9.
Seat post is 45 cm measured c2c.
Top tube is 47 cm measured c2c.
Down tube is 55 cm measured c2c.
Head tube is 12 cm.
7 speed Shimano index shifters.
Shimano Deore LX triple chain set 170 mm.
Shimano Dore DX front & rear derailleurs.
Mavic M231 559 x 17 (26") Profil PSP 36h anodised rims.
Shimano Deore DX hubs front & rear.
Shimano QR skewers.
Schwalbe Marathon Plus 26 x 1.35 tyres.
Shimano SLR cantilever brakes.
Shimano BB.
Tange Nova 300, 1" headset.
Shimano 7 speed touring cassette.
Shimano Deore brake levers.

The Pantographed fork crowns are lovely and there is a multitude of embossed detailed lug work on this. It must have cost a fortune to have it custom made as the original owner had done.
Chrome rear stays and front fork tips embossed with REYNOLDS on them.
Rear pump braze-ons.
There are quite a few chips to the paint but fortunately, none of the lug work nor the decals are chipped.
There are no dents at all and I have had it checked on a frame jig by my m8 who owns my LBS. All good.
I took it out for another spin this morning to photograph it. It rolls absolutely lovely, always the sign of a quality set up.
Realistically it's for a Gent/Lady 5' 2" to 5' 5".
So there it is.
It hadn't been used for 10 years so it took a bit of fettling/re-commissioning which was a pleasure to do and so easy on such a small bike.
Everything works, nothing is in need of replacement except the dreadful stem. A Nitto one would look so much nicer.
Nothing is worn or tired. The BB, hubs, headset and gearing all smooth and quiet.
IMHO, It's a thing of beauty that needs the right owner so I'm going to price it I believe modestly.

Bargain; wish I was in Gloucestershire just for this... need a Tardis....rather than the exposed windswept, Atlantic coast that we call God's country in west Scotland....

Alas, tis usually the way. I saw a bike I really wanted last summer and it was in, yep you guessed it, Glasgow and the seller wouldn't post !

I recall reading that Hilary Stone was in the frame workshop back in the day & witnessed the skill that Geo Longstaff demonstrated whilst swaging a bottom bracket into a frame....He said that Longstaff was in the top 3 English frame builders operating at that time....sadly taken too soon...think they're now built by Rourke's ? but I could be wrong in that.....

Yep, the business was transferred to B Rourkes a few years ago. I believe they still hold all the previous purchase history of GL bikes/frames.
