From 1998, I believe.

I'm not familiar with bikes beyond 1997 but this one
is only just over that border. Meaning that the technology is familiar.

Ok, like many, I didn't need another bike with two
others fighting for attention but, I needed to do bike related with
my time. Saw this on ebay....

Re:

First impression is that it's a URT. I will always favour a constant chain length
despite the frame pivoting.

Next, a bit ugly but I bought it anyway. Lets get busy!

The maintenance history is pathetic. It's been a nip to the shops, type
of bike. The thick, matted grease layered up all over. Nothing would rotate
or click as you would expect. The chain was like one of those wooden snakes you
Buy for young 'un at the seaside.

I envisage the oiling up of the bike was simply to top up the gunge with
something more liquid,

Its heavenly as everything needs attention.

As I type it's all torn down, and partially rebuilt.
As I cleaned with fairly harsh degreaser, it became obvious the paint has
suffered over the years. A repeat was not on the agenda, so I cleaned up the best
I could and shoved some clear lacquer on the frame, to preserve what's
left it owt.
Get close and it's a little tatty. But the bike will fit in the fleet all the same.

Re:

Cheers guys.

The bike will certainly get the lease of life it deserves.

The image reminded of the strip down, when I discovered bottle cage fixings.

I mean, really....there!

A tad impractical me thinks.

 need long arms.

one of the old locals (who now teaches my daughter) rode for Gary and team gb bitd and had one of these, a friend bought it and i learned no foot can cans on a mtb on it way back int he 90s haha

Re:

Hehe, you dont see danger Chris.

I've discovered 4 pumps of swarfega (orange flavoured) with a pint of
water is a damn good cleaner/degreaser. Soak subject v brake arms, mechs etc
overnight and the gunk comes away real easy.

Just waiting for BB, big chairing and tyres and can reassemble further and
get more pics up.

Cheers.

Re:

Some spare time this morning, loads of stuff delivered so, I gave gary a big push.
All cabled up. Mechs installed and set up.
Even got the tyres and tubes sorted out.

Plenty more adjusting and tweaking to do. Including fork refresh.
The front end looks neater. The back end really needs a respray, but I can live with it.

Cannondale stem fits much better with the bikes colour scheme.
I'm a cassette and chain away from a shake down but, no rush tbh.
