I have a Sachs 7speed (12, 13, 15, 17, 20, 24, 28T) Aris freewheel and according to the blurb...

"...The genius of the SACHS-Maillard ARIS (Advanced Rider Indexed System) is that it is compatible with ALL 5/6/7/8 speed indexed shifters! This includes Campagnolo Synchro, Shimano XT-M732, Shimano 600 SL-7400, Suntour Accushift, Mavic, etc."

I don't believe a word of it...

Coupled with first generation Gripshifts, Suntour derailleurs and a Sedis chain I'm fully expecting it to be shite. A gearing system that Dr Frankenstein would be proud of...

Thanks for getting back to me. Do you know if shamano have one that fits, I had a shimano screw on on my Ringle hubs which was decent

A Shimano 600 EX would work but I think they're 6 speed only. Not sure if there was a 7spd MTB freewheel BITD as cassettes were being used by that time and the DuraAce option will only go to 21T. I'm sure someone will know/remember.

I think Sachs was pretty much the best option BITD. Otherwise you are limited to something modern like Sunrace.
