I'm going to leave it as is for the time being and make the decision at the very end. In the meantime any of you got any suggestions for black chainrings?

You can buy new black stronglight chainrings for about £15 each. They’re not retro but they do the trick

Damn it! I picked up a 1" 1/4 headset and have just found the head tube is approx. 0.4mm oversized. I should have checked but the frame came with an 1"1/8 headset that was using shims, so assumed that they were there because of the size difference.

Anyone ever had this problem? I'm guessing that I'm looking at having to make some shims?

Unsurprisingly the head tube isn’t round but worst case there’s a 0.48mm difference.

I’m thinking of boring a hole in some aluminium and then press fitting the bottom cup into it. The cup then goes into the lathe and the shim is then turned down so that it will then fit the headtube.
