I think I will go with 91
That way I can use the Bullseye hubs and RM20 rims I have and use thumbies

Just need to find some mint condition Crank Bros cranks in silver now

A ‘93 should have the later decals so it’s either a ‘91 or ‘92.

I’d say ‘91 because of the screw in stops on the seat stays but ‘92 because of the seat post diameter.

This one has been repainted. But we’re thinking 91 - agree?

The 1992 brochure shows the frame exactly like yours (seat post insert), head tube shape, etc.. So 1991 is very likely.

But having sourced a load of 91 parts
It feels like I could have just specced anything between 1990 and 1995 and nobody would even notice
I like to get it right - and even better - I like to be challenged. But I don’t want to build it 1991 and then some Funk guru walks up and says that’s lovely - but why did you build that 93 frame with all 91 parts?

Back in the 90s, unless you bought a top level bike that had top spec parts, weren't we all upgrading to the latest ringle-onza-(fill in the blank) boutique parts? I don't remember anyone keeping a catalog spec bike to catalog spec, so I never quite understood the desire to make sure the vintage of your parts exactly matched the vintage of your frame. But I guess I respect it if you are dead set on matching it to a catalog pic you drooled over as a kid. Putting 92 or 93 parts on it would still make this just as legitimate a build as all 91 in my opinion. Going the other direction.... I am running m735 thumbies on my early 2000s Litech to this day and wouldn't change a thing.

And you are absolutely right of course.
If I was running an 89 Yeti Ultimate with a Taperlite, and Answer released a new lighter Hyperlite bar in 1990, absolutely I would have switched

And I never try to build exact to catalogue spec. I guess I like the challenge of getting all the parts perfect for the year, but I’m getting a little less anal about it nowadays. I’ve even bought replica parts which I never would have done 10 years ago

The danger is of course that all my builds end up looking pretty much the same. So I am trying to mix things up a bit with this one.

Primarily I try to have fun and get some enjoyment out of it.

This Funk sure is pretty tho which is actually making it much harder. I’ve fitted and taken more stuff off so far than I’ve ever done on any other build
