Fuel economy - What do you get?

Octavia 4x4 2.0 tdi estate. Overall 43-46mpg, nudging 50 on a run. I can get higher, but I'm willing to pay the extra for the fun

My precise theory with my motor. Fun and reasonably frugal. Also not bad to insure (£450 for modified tailored policy) and £110 tax for a year.

Also, I save a lot of money having my laptop installed with diagnostics so I can fix a lot of issues (or at least diagnose them) myself right away. Dealers charge an F'in fortune just to "plug you in"....

'99 Focus 1.8 petrol Estate:

Average over 150K miles: 34.0mpg
Best: 40.1mpg
Worst: 25.9mpg

All based on "full tanks", but I do see a variation winter to summer, worse in the winter, better in summer, which is over enough tanks to rule out driving style.

YMMV, :)

My average is officially 45.77 at the moment, based on 2,658 miles done using Shell V-Power Diesel. I started a spreadsheet when I first started using it. (Bit sad, but I wanted to see if the +6p/7p price was worth it over normal diesel)

About 30mpg on my run to work on the motorway, probably about 22mpg when pottering around.

Is it worth the extra?

Over the last 2500ish miles I have averaged 58.1mpg in a Focus Estate 1.6

It is a very practical car but it has been known to be out accelarated by glaciers. I don't generally bother with looking at the speedo, I just look out the window to see how far the sun has moved.

Not for economy I don't think in my case, but my car feels a little perkier and smooth on Vpower, due to the higher cetane rating. I also add Millers Diesel fuel additive to boost the cetane further.

I would be interested for someone to do the same spreadsheet as me (I can email my template if needed :D) for someone with a 100% standard car.

I thought the Millers stuff wasn't really relevant (cetane whise) with fuel that was already higher than normal?
