Fuel economy - What do you get?

Mercedes s600 v12 twin turbo 11mpg city and 16 Hwy

Lamborghini Gallardo 10 mpg city and 15 hwy

2005 Ford GT 994 rear wheel horsepower (supercharged and twin turboed) 8 mpg city and between 11 and 16 hwy depending how's it's driven

31 foot 2007 Ford powered RV. 5.5 to 7.2 mpg

US gallons are smaller than British gallons 3.8litres v 4.54litres off the top of my head. So those figures are slightly better compared to all the ones posted, notice the choice word slightly

Just how accurate are these on-board computers you are all using to calculate fuel consumption?

Probably depends on the marque but I've found the VAG ones to be around 10% higher than the true MPG with a similar amount in my old Mondeo ST TDCI and MINI Cooper S

10% is quite significant! If I had one I would be comparing it with the traditional method.

On-board computers are historically a fair bit out and are only really intended as a guide.

Brim tank, reset trip, travel, brim tank.
Use fuel used vs miles covered to calculate average mpg

Renault Clio 1.5dci (previous shape - lighter 960kg - is it sad that I know the weight of my car? )

65-70mpg. Average. Incredible but true. Only officially supposed to get 60-65. Mixture of country lanes in 4th and 3rd and motorway in 5th. Bit of town driving to tescos and that.

never had less than 600 miles on a 50l tank, and that was down to the south of france at 90.

We used to weigh the bits of unnecessary luxury (like rear sets, spare wheel, door cards, carpets, headlining etc. etc.) as we took them out!!

short daily commute - 45mpg
daily commute + few motorway runs - 50mpg
long motorway - 55-60mpg

These are calculated figures as the OBC is over 10% optimistic!

i used to get 50mpg over a 120 mile daily commute in a 406 hdi 110 driving flat out in every gear.

both calculated using traditional methods.

my misses A3 1.8T says 33mpg on the onboard computer (she only drives round town) but ive calculated miles againt tank size and this is impossible, its infact around 29mpg.

similar lies from my old 51 plate xsara vts.

Low to mid 20's around town, late 20's perhaps even early 30's sticking to motorway limit on a long trip.

About 14mpg on track

Not a practical bike car though, I had to resort to a strap on rear rack for the first time - hate the things.
