Front mech requires too much force, please help!

With the spacer, and the cable attached as it should be, it’s shifting ok, not too much force required to shift, a touch of rub but haven’t fine tuned it, it does struggle ever so slightly to jump onto the large chainring when in the lowest gear on the cassette but that should be normal as you shouldn’t really be in that extreme ratio anyway, the non-drive side crank arm end screw cap is quite long so it engages ok, the only issue is weather there’s a safe amount of axle coming through for the arm to clamp onto? Not sure

dang nabbit it. it's ultegra, I didn't spot that.

se that little pin under the bolt? that's an adjuster. I bet it's shifted out of place. it's for setting the angle of the cable entry and theres a special little do dad for setting it up. as you haven't got it, use a 2mm allen key to turn it the other way and try again.

The converter pin is in the ‘on’ position, it’s a good shout, it does push the cable closer the frame which helps with the amount of force needed to shift.

Alignment wise, when on the big chainring, the chain is lining up with the 4th cassette cog! I think you guys mentioned it should really be hitting the middle, the 6th!

maybe the spacer isn’t the way forward, I’m now wondering if the braze on mount is warped and it’s causing the mech to sit proud of the frame with would account for the cable issue!

There’s stacks of room between the frame and the mech, the frame as the indent to accommodate a closer fitting position
