What's the best way to rub down / remove the lacquer from my frame? It's an Orange Aluminium Elite - it's just (tatty) lacquered aluminium I believe!

Also, do you guys generally add the decals PRIOR to re-lacquering? The Elite has its decals on top of the lacquer.

Any tips for my first renovation appreciated!

Chemical stripper as above. ;)

Also, as to whether you apply the decals under or over the new lacquer;

Neither. Polish the frame up nice and shiny then apply the decals followed by a good wax car polish ;)

It'll need a polish every so often, but it won't ever flake off and look awful.

The lacquer was never a really good idea in the first place.

and get some gloves and safety glasses. It's vicious stuff if you get it on your skin or in your eyes.

Otherwise, apply with a paint brush and wait. One application will lift the lacquer off most of the frame, just leave it long enough to do it's work.

Then use it on medium wire wool to get the bits out of all the nooks and crannies. ;)
