Hello,

Not often that I venture to these parts and am a bit lost with modern stuff like suspension. These have recently landed chez moi with a load of other bits that I wanted and I know bugger all about them so edumacate me please. I've only ever ridden rigid bikes and I'm not sure I want to move to the dark side.

Are they any good? Can I still get bits for them or have them serviced? What goes wrong with them?

I know this isn't the place to ask but an indication of a value would be useful if it's not too cheeky to ask as I'll probably end up flogging them unless I do something unthinkable like fit and ride them, god forbid!

Cheers

They are terrible.......i will take them of you out of pity !..........no really good fork, as with all foxes of a certain era, lubrication is the key.......some early fox forks wore out left legs in no time due to too little oil in the left leg not reaching high enough. Best thing to do is email TF tuned and ask if you need to alter oil amounts and service intervals other than what Fox manuals say..........we used to put a bit more oil in for customers (left leg) as you look down sitting on bike) they used to put 30cc in we put 40cc.......i see more modern Fox have 40cc in now, and sell them silicon spray to do the sliders after a clean...........never power wash near them either.

I really liked the pair that I had, when fitted to my Pace.
They are surprisingly light, stiff, and I found them to be very plush.
Easy to set up too.... play around with the air pressure in the left leg to get the right preload for your weight, the red dial on the right is for your rebound damping, and the blue dial on the bottom of the right leg is the Threshold adjuster (ie how much of a bump it will take to "unlock" the forks when they are in Lockout mode)... the blue doofah on top of the right fork leg is your lockout lever.

Only thing I missed was a remote lockout, but the forks were so good I could forgive them that.
At 80mm of travel they were ideal for the sort of XC use I gave them.

You can still find parts for them and get them serviced at most of the usual places eg Mojo, TF Tuned etc...

You could do worse than try them, you might even be converted ;) :D

Awesome forks! One of the very best in terms of performance. You do need to whip the legs off fairly frequently and lube the wiper seals: http://www.mojo.co.uk/dustwiper.html to stop the dreaded stanchion wear.
Plenty more useful videos here: http://www.mojo.co.uk/techtips.html
Genuine parts from here:http://www.mojostore.co.uk/
Technical gubbins here: http://service.foxracingshox.com/consumers/index.htm

Super-easy to change the oil, oil should be changed EVERY 30 HOURS on the 32mm models (see Fox website for details) they reckon every 100 hours to service the dampers too. I do the wiper seals quite frequently and the oil annually, but I spread my riding out over 3 pairs :D

80mm travel forks are 450mm a-c, 100 470mm a-c etc.

Tidy with NO wear on the stanchions £120-150 quid, any wear an the seals will start to leak so £45-80. A service and new stanchions will set you back £280 or more! http://www.mojo.co.uk/images/2013-Serv-Prices.jpg
