I was contemplating building a modern road bike with a 10sp Ulterga 6600 groupset that I had, but having looked at the retro mod scene and what others had built I decided to stay away from the modern Tupperware frames. The whole point of this project was to have a bike on which I could managed the hills up here, being honest I just don't have the legs for them

I didn't what to rebuild any of my other bikes and have decided to have a bit of a cull of the one's least ridden and unsuitable for around here. Having sold my Harry Perry I wanted a fillet brazed frame and was looking for something like a 531 pro or 753 but nothing had come up.

Then this turned up on Ebay:

Here we have a new old stock classic road race frame, liveried as a 'F'light' (this was a brand from the shop Fairlight cycles in Devon).
The frame was built by legendary builder Ron Cooper and purchased with several other 'stock' frames by me from Ron in around 2006. It was painted metallic pink by colourtech which was next to Rons workshop.
It is 51cm from centre of Bottom bracket to top of seat tube and is made from Columbus sl tubing.
It is beautifully fillet brazed and has a BBB seatpost and a Shimano 105 headset included. 38" short wheelbase.
The paint on the top tube is slightly rough and there is a very tiny dent that is hard to photograph- you need to run your finger over it to really notice. This could easily be remedied if it was re-finished. There is a small chip on the down tube that has been touched in.
It is conventional geometry with horizontal top tube. It is close clearances with no provision for mudguards. It has all the usual braze ons inc. front mech boss and english thread bottom bracket obviously. 1" threaded fork. Rear end width is 130mm.

Re:

Niiiiiice.

Signing in for this one.

As for climbing.

I was told the more you do the easier it gets. That's a lie.

I was also told it does not get easier, you just get faster. That's a lie too.

However, given the right gearing, you do get used to it and you can also surprise yourself by what you can endure and just how much climbing you can do.

:D

You won't have to wait long been building it up since Wednesday ;)

The first job was to swap out the headset for a NOS ultegra 6410 and trim the steerer tube.

all the components were stripped and cleaned months ago so it was just a case of fitting up.

The DS crank has a fair bit of heel rub so will be polished sometime next week.

I will be finishing it off with grey cables and some white bar tape.

Uncanny! I've just built up a 1979 Wes Mason frame with 10spd Ultegra with the same bloody cassette and chainring combo!

And was looking at the lakes ride.

Weird...
