Flat ground top speed

Recently I have been out using strava putting in the miles on my old saracen. Managed a personal best of 42 kph/26 mph. What top speeds have you lot recorded?

I've done 46MPH on my GT RTS. It was all controlled and nice until I realised how fast I was actually going, then it was a little scary. I will add that it was a road going slightly downhill so easy to get the speed up, but you still needed to pedal to keep it going.

On the flat I would say >30MPH has been achieved but not very often.

You need an incentive to go faster

Recently, whatever ~150 rpm gets you on 38x11......
Er, on a 26" wheel that's in the region of 40mph! If you can sustain that, you should be racing (if you don't already)... ;)

I can spin 34/15 at 150rpm for half a mile or so on the flat, that works out at about 27mph - fat-slicked SS MTB.

Sounds about right.
That was off the start line of a race. About 1500 metres on tarmac until you drop into the first bit of woodland.
Only did it to provide a lead out/hole shot for a couple of the clubs elite riders. (Finished 1st and 2nd in the end)

I didn't finish, spent an hour scraping some poor bugger off the trail on one of the fast DH sections........

Re:

These days, not sure, some time ago!, relying on an Avocet 30, 33mph on the flat road and saw 44 down hill off road on the grass once, once was enough if I remember correctly!

Cheers for the imput guys,I am still unable to top 26 mph despite a few tries, new slicks at hi pressure should change that.I have a 48 at the front which helps a bit too
