Fitting ahead to a 1992 Specialized Stumpjumper

For the Specialized experts:

What type of fork do I need to install into a 1992 Stumpjumper (1 or 1 1/?
If I want to convert it to a ahead system, where could I get a fork that fits?

If you want a rigid fork, you need to find one with an axle-to-crown length of about 390mm, give or take. Your choices are limited by the fact that threadless headsets and suspension forks became popular around the same time, so most threadless rigid forks are designed for suspension-corrected geometry. Keep trawling eBay and you'll find something eventually. Here's my '92 Stumpjumper Comp with a threadless Sycip fork from eBay:

If you can't find a suitable fork with a threadless steerer, you can fit a replacement threadless steerer to an early Pace RC30, Tange Switchblade or similar.

If you're looking for a suspension fork, I'll let someone else advise you.

If you have to settle for a threaded, then simply use a quill to a head convertor OR even an extender/adaptor with a threadless headset.

He guys,

Just went to see the bike. It has a 1 1/8 Fox suspension fork in it. Also the rigid fork which has been in it has a 1 1/8 diameter. Measured it three times to be shure

That is VERY nice! The tyres look to be a tight fit in the frame/forks?

Bought only the frame and fork. It was in good condition.
Now need to find some original decals and go for a nice pearl white respray.

Will post some more pics when the frame is dismantled and back home

Based on this frame I will build a new expedition bike. So a lot of km's around the world for this bike.

Ah well, apologies for the bad advice. I thought only the FS had an oversized headtube.
