Fitting 1.5" steerer to old frames

Hi folks,

I have been out of the MTB game for a while and back in my day all forks had 1 1/8th steerers I am sure.

Looking at some of the Marzocchi forks they are 1.5" steerers now.

Are there adaptors to fit these forks or is it only modern frames which can use these newer forks.

Thank you.

The only retro frames that can accept a 1.5" fork are Headshok-compatible Cannondales.

A 1 1/8" headtube is 34mm in diameter.

A 1 1/4" headtube is 37mm in diameter.

A 1.5" steerer is a touch over 38mm in diameter.

Most forks are 11/8" still only the uber expensive seem to be 1.5" so I would ask why you needed those on a retroframe check out the for sale section for a wide range of forks that would fit or take a look on chain reaction cycles

Are you sure? Don't know much about Marzocchi but Fox and Rock Shox do all their forks in 1 1/8" and 1.5" taper, can't see why Marzocchi wouldn't offer both as well.

Edit: sorry, misread that - I didn't see the "some of". So yeah, some are 1.5" taper but you can still get 1 1/8" if you want them.
