Will be used for my road bike but i may use them on my MTB too if i get on with them. SO hiking style boots probably wont look right!!

I dont really want to spend more than 40-50 quid.

Anyone got any pointers/experiences with certain makes?

dhb from wiggle any good?

Best bet is to pop down to your LBS as all shoe manufacturers sizes vary slightly

I found Shimano shoes too narrow, Northwave a bit small for the given size & Specialized to be spot on

i did go down there but they are so expensive :(

i know its bad and i should support my LBS but for example, spd pedals were 40 there and 20 from merlin. How can i ignore that?

Get the pedals from Merlin, or wherever's cheapest, but things like shoes (helmets, gloves) need to be tried on before buying (IMHO) as you can make expensive and painful mistakes if you do get the wrong sizing.

Saying that there's nothing stopping you from trying shoes on in a shop then buying online ;)
