finaly got to the blizzard

so i finally got around to dealing with my blizzard frame by stripping it today and getting it primed. and a few questions came up.

what size is the seatpost, the brochure says 27.2, but the one that was in the frame is a 26.8. this may explain why the seat collar looks like its bent out of shape.

secondly the bottom bracket has a Tom Ritchey stamp in it ? any body know why?

third and i hope last, due to the bent seatpost clamp, and they are notorious for not staying tight, do i get banned form retro bike if i square off the seat post tube and put a normal clamp on it?

Because it's a Ritchey bottom bracket shell. Ritchey had frame parts (dropouts and shells) and tubing made to his spec, and some of these parts were used by other manufacturers. Like Ritchey dropouts and Nitanium tubing on later steel Rockhoppers.

My 93 Equipe had a 26.8 post, but that may or may not map across onto a 94 Blizzard. But surely you should be able to tell close enough whether the existing post is right? If it's as much as 0.4 too small as you suspect and if it and the tube are fairly clean, then it would just fall down the tube under its own weight if not clamped. My rule of thumb is that if a post falls under its own weight that means it's too small, if it's really hard work to force it in, it's too big, and if it's tight but not too hard to adjust then it's just right. But from the sound of it, if you really think you've bent the clamp getting it tight enough, then I'd have thought that the post is too small.

And yes, obviously if you square off the top of the seat tube, no respectable person will ever speak to you again. :shock:
