I'm fairly sure that's the disc, look at where the outside edge of caliper is and you can see the rusty bit is inside this. If the shiny bit was the outside diameter of disc there's not very much of the disc inside caliper being swept by pads. Brake shield/backplates are generally around the same diameter as disc.

Keef said 11ish at bottom carpark. Last Sunday we met at the top carpark, he cycled fae Dunfermline and he still got there afore me who drove there fae 3 mile away.

yep as part of my fitness push I'm cycling up the morra as well. Works out at 24miles which is a guid leg stretcher.
