Fell-Races

I've been meaning to do one since I read 'feet in the clouds' but haven't got round to it. I do a race every year called the mighty deerstalker but its not your traditional fell race as such. Its always about now I say I'm going to do one to start training for the deerstalker

It can be mental stuff at times

The last biggie I did was a round of the English National Championships around the Holme-Moss area (17 miles/4000 feet of climbing!!)

This was the first big climb!

Yeah, go on then. I've been known to do a few. The biggest was the World Long Distance Mountain Running Champs (23miles/4600ft of climbing) a few years back where I ruined both my knees and had to take 6 months off...

The last was a race near Blackburn where I broke my ankle 300m from the finish whilst tussling for a top ten finish. Another six months off, started training and broke the same ankle again as the ligaments had become too stretchy!!

Happily, I'm fit again now, running 50 miles a week to get a good base in, going to start doing some speedwork soon then it's back to the hills with a number on my chest around November time.....

I still can't get over the speed at which some guys descend!! Truly suicidal....
