I would guess M739. Don't know who else uses that system.

edit to add. Have a wee look here.

Great info thank you

What does the side against the crank arm look like?
And the crank interface?

Not sure yet, I will let you know when I have stripped of and compared it to the XTR four bolt that I have :D

Looking up the thread I hadn't posted pictures of the forks that I picked up, so here they are - a genuine Yo fork ...

I never thought I would get a genuine fork as the prices just seem to have gone crazy  This pair were priced ok, but like most things, a balance needed to be found and this was the trade off for the 'cheap' price :-( :

One of the crowns (if that's what you call them on a segmented fork ?) is twisted beyond what I would class as safe for cold setting (bending ) back into position and will need replacement :

The other has some very mild distortion that could probably be bent back but that might as well get replaced at the same time so I have total peace of mind :D

Both legs appear straight and in good condition :D

One of the canti studs appeared to be bent (I guess from the same incident) but when I unscrewed it, only the replaceable stud was bent, not the boss which would have been a bit more worrying as it might have indicated some leg damage. I think you are aware that I am not really bothered about the canti studs anyway ... ;)

Note that the seller was completely up front about these issues and it was all taken care of with the price - I had already checked the repair possibilities and costs before purchasing

I picked up this crank so I had the flexibility of a five bolt spider :

I didn't really need the arms but the buyer wouldn't split - I guess they will come in useful though as spares ;-) It could actually be quicker to swap the drive side arm over (they are 175mm like the others) than swap the spiders ... ? :D

I am pretty sure it's Shimano but I am not sure what it is off and it has no part numbers on it ?

It looks like it needed a little tweak to clear the back of the xtr arm and allow it to fit flush :

I have found out that you could get an XTR five arm from Shimano but I don't think mine is an original XTR due to the mod ?

I haven't stripped it yet but I will neaten that mod up somewhat when I do :D

WD :D

These are standard crank and spider from the M95x series, 739 was black as were the later 5 arm spiders....

I have 2 pairs of these and a pair of AC which is interchangeable with the shimano....

The M739 5 arm adapter was silver, just the ring was black.

Hhhmmm… I am not so sure … :?

I have stripped the spider off now and it has defo been modified (butchered ) to fit :

It wasn’t quite modified enough either … There is wear on the back of the crank arm edges where the spider has been butted up tight - enough where I wouldn’t be surprised if the ring didn’t run quite true, or came loose easily (although the lock ring was a bit chewed up and it was obvious it had been tightened well, it was reasonably loose and easy to remove when I stripped it).

Compare my spider :

To the one I found for sale (advertised as XTR) :

Notice the extra relief for the crank arm on the XTR version that mine doesn’t have ? :?

I don’t know what PCD the XTR version used but mine is 110mm if that helps identify it further ?

What do you think ? :D

At least the 110 PCD should make it easy to get spares and keep the XTR setup running

Does that just locate on the four large splines ? Mine is the smaller XTR style 'internal' splines ?

That also looks a smaller PCD - my arms seem to look longer (unless its an optical illusion ?) :?

Was that group available with a compact and standard option ?

What do you think ? :D

Re:

I think the damage is due to it either having been loose and ridden or maybe a non shimano ring has been mounted which necessitated the slight mod.

I'll try and get pics of mine this evening but the XT was similar as was the LX in that style and while they could be exchanged I dont think many folk did so I would be surprised if this was......

Annoyingly I dont have the correct tool to loosen mine so I cant remove to compare...

I won't wait for a reply!

The pics confirm that what you have is not an M739 spider. Differences being the four lugs on the front and the missing arrow.

Also just for reference a couple of fitted pics. Check the space between the arm and spider in the 2nd pic.

Pretty much identical to the front face on the picture. I have compared it to the XTR DH spider I have and both sides around the center mount are identical :D

I've had a closer look and it's not from it coming loose - there is zero clearance when it's assembled AND the spider doesn't sit quite flush on it's flange (great word ), it rests on the arm when there is no torque on the lock ring ...

Mine came from Halfords - the manager sold me the mechanics shop tool !

These are pics of my XTR one, I can't get it off but it looks slightly different....
