Fat Chance 1992 Yo Eddy Rebuild

Oh I see what you mean now, the use posts don’t have a hole in the hidden end. I always thought that the posts that did were so they could be locked with a u lock to the bike to stop seat / post theft ?

Anyhow, what was that old saying ? Something along the lines of “You wait ages for a bus and then two come along at once”

New one should clean up great and very easily – just a quick buff needed  You can see the difference in hole size required to remove the damage from the first post :

I now have four of these things …  Five if I include a short NOS purple one …

Three of the Ti ones are in use though (Marin / Airborne / Yo) and the purple one is earmarked for the GF’s bike :D

Yeah I have seen that one :D There's a couple of things up with it though (if I were buying it) - it's to expensive for my taste and it doesn't need anything messing with ...

Unless I am chasing NOS, I prefer to buy cheap and recondition - wait till you see my sub £8 Ti Ringle skewer  If I had paid good money for the yo or bought a mint / original one, I wouldn't be having all this fun now ... ;-)

Yeah the post is definitely ally, definitely NOS, definitely very short (220mm) and definitely very purple !

Your comment on Ti anodising is playing on my mind now though ...

• Frame = Purple / Lilac / Violet
• Anodising = Purple
• Decals = Purple
• Grips = Purple / Pink
• Ti forks, bars, bars ends and post = Ti anodised purple ... ?

Hhhhmmmm ...

Just got back from an extended vacation  I am hoping to get a few more bits done over the Christmas break, but we will see ...

Ref this comment and the price of original forks ... :?

Thanks for the comments  If you have a spare Yo fork (at sensible money ), please let me know ... ;-)

The last two pairs I watched on eBay went for £308.60 and £363.01 (including postage to the UK) ...

The advert for the second set mentioned some import charges of £100.35 actually making the true cost £463.36 ...

I guess I won't be getting a pair of original forks any time soon then ... :-(

I am in need of a OE / DKG seat post clamp if anyone has one ?

I did buy one off 'sbrian' (he's on fat cogs and Retrobike), but didn't hear anything after I had paid and then needed paypal to get me my money back ...

It's this type I am after, this was a generic picture I found :

These are the pictures I got off sbrian for the one I thought I was buying :

Perhaps it was just a simple misunderstanding and he thought I was paying $42 for a couple of pictures ...

DKG do sit nice, but not with the Yo Eddy frame clamp hole (or whatever you would call it). Tried it and it didn't work out.

Best

Thanks for the comments and the info

I think I am going to hold out for an original clamp - I am not exactly in a rush ...

I have decided to fit the obligatory Ringle holeys (they will go well with the stem) but the cost of these things for a good set seems to have gone a bit silly lately ... :-(

I already had a spare set of hard anodised black levers for the bear valley and I wasn't prepared to use / reanodise those so the hunt began :D

These have been picked up over a period of time and all at good prices ranging from very cheap to reasonable. I will systematically strip, refurb, reanodise and rebuild these.

I will keep this thread I did updated with the full instructions and photos : viewtopic.php?f=1&t=198359&hilit=ringle and add the extra 'refurb' bits as I go along :D

This was the first one I bought off here :

It was described as :

"Ringle, faded & used but in ok condition. Nice skewer for a workhorse, but not good enough for an exhibition bike"

This is it now :

The blue one came from eBay, but also from a user on here. It's battered but it was less than £8 delivered and has donated a lever, barrel and nut so I can't complain - I actually suspect the lever will be one of the ones that ends up on the Yo ... ;-)

All of them stripped down well, other than the stainless axle (blue) one which I had to trash the axle - no problem though as the stainless axles are cheap and easy to make / replace :D

These are bits I had (in addition to the above, other than the purple one). The hard anodised levers in the bags, there is a NOS set of Ti axles there to :

More coming soon ...
