At the end of the day why should the brits who live there give up their homes . Did we learn nothing from reflecting on history.

Yeah because argentina is going to put them all in trucks and ship them off to the gas chambers

haha argentina is the 21st biggest economy in the world, larger than holland and australia. Sure they suffer from recession cycles more than us. That's because they actually still have industry and exports, whilst europe has just gone into a service economy...if anything in real terms their economy is healthier than ours.

They would let them live out their normal day to day lives, they have no reason not to. The only thing that would change would be the flag, but of course we couldn't admit that for fear of losing what is just a military base which gives britain a (weak) claim for potential antartic oil fields.

Christ mate you talk some shit, Argentina has never had a valid claim, They invaded last time and lost, maybe you and few of your 5th column buddies can go and help out with the next "democratic" election they have in Argentina.

Which bit of argentina being closer to the falklands is shit exactly?

Irrelevant twaddle.

Argentina itself does not make a claim on this basis.

And if it were international law and taken to it's only logical conclusion, that would mean every nation has to transfer sovereignty to its bigger neighbour. That would make the whole world Russian.

What utter drivel!
Kindly quote your source of this misinformation.
Methinks if you turned round and bent over, we might be able to hear you better...

I wouldn't normally quote Wiki as a reliable source, but it does handily have three ratings of countries' GDPs.

No infact it makes the claim on the fact that britain STOLE the islands in 1833

Which is quite reasonable seen as the islands were originally spanish. Also you always have to take into consideration the geography and international waters, geographic plates etc. That's why a large swathe of the arctic is infact being claimed by the russians. Tomorrow if the chinese stick a flag in some outlying uninhabited islands and populate them, will you be claiming those islands are british?

Taking advantage of the fact that argentina had just been created and stealing the islands was just colonialism in an era of colonialism, but nowadays i'd hope people with a little bit of common sense and a history book would be able to see past the necessity of holding onto the islands.

We should do like we did with hong kong and take out say a 90 year lease, that way it gives back the territory without giving it back, it would settle all these arguments and be a civilised way of dealing with it.

there's no such thing as "nuff said" when you're talking about growth, economy, social indicators, development, education, health and wealth.
You cant judge a country only by its GDP, that's nonsense.
I can bet you Netherlands beats Argentina in all of the others.
If you analise any of the BRICS, sure they have some awesome numbers now, but go and check life expectancy, access to education and health.

No one who wants to get a serious discussion on this topics can rule out those factors. And by the way, try to get a better source than wiki..
