extending bars

Hi all

I have got some heavy duty riser bars that are a little too short, the lockon grips sit too close to the controls and I can't get the controls on any further because of the bends.

I was thinking of making (I have access to a lathe) some stepped plugs with about one inch in length the same diameter as the ID of the bar and then another inch the same OD as the bar. I would fit these with some Loctite, giving me an extra inch on each end.

I am pretty happy it would be plenty strong enough. What do you think? I have read that some bmxers run lockon grips an inch off the ends of thier bars for more length but I think my idea would be better.

Cheers

I did exactly the same on a bike a couple of years back with no problems. Just don't go fitting bar ends or anything like that and I'm sure you'll be fine.

I have the same dilema, if I'm lazy the extenders look like a good solution. I was also going to make something up in the lathe.

hmmmmm, thanks for the link to them bar end things, I can't find any round alu less than 50mm in the workshop so these may well have to do!
