Does my statement point the blame at the EU ?
No but it conflates the effects of relative decline and globalisation with EU membership. You conclude that the the problem of being a country with declining ability to project influence is best solved by leaving the world's largest political and trading bloc.
Absolutely why stay in a place when no one listens to you why speak your mind when your just ignored. An old adage says "you don't know what you've got until its gone" . I think they will know what they've lost when we're gone. Spineless politicians who put up a show cower to their EU counterparts and capitulate at every turn. As for trade there is of course the rest of the world, will BMW stop selling cars in the UK I think not
The past is the past. Power has required progressively larger geographies: the UK was unable to go it alone in the 1940s, requiring continental-scale economies to have the economic might to support political intent.
The Americans and Canadians had a choice us or Hitler they knew they couldn't control Hitler and Backlash of the Jewish population in Americanwhich is where most of the wealth is
Now even continental-scale economies cannot operate in isolation, as the USA is beginning to discover.
Because America goes to war every one has to tag along Next time they want our help in a war lets give them the bill see how they like it They could of taken Iraq and Kuwait by themselves it would of cost them sure and for what peace in the middle east or to keep OPEC happy? Why aren't NATO sticking their nose in Syria's affairs scared of Russia or they don't produce enough oil to worry about Hmmm
I simply do not see what advantages we will extract by being on our own. I don't exactly see who are preferable friends...is it really to our advantage to be the sock puppets of China and Russia instead? Even the Americans have stated bluntly that they see our best position as allies is as EU members.
Americans yea American Bankers that says a lot and we'll never be sock puppets of China or Russia being part of NATO and ties to America but there would be no harm playing the field . And I simply don't see any point staying in, Europe does not have our values or our interest at heart The common man has nothing to lose leaving the EU the Very rich on the other hand do, The banking sector has had a big slice of pie from the Tax payer has the steel industry seen any crumbs?
