Which handily also sets out the process for re-admittance. Which of course makes this statement

A Leave vote would be forever
utter bollocks as previously mentioned.

5. If a State which has withdrawn from the Union asks to rejoin, its request shall be subject to the procedure referred to in Article 49.

Article 49":9hxhadvo said:
Any European State which respects the values referred to in Article 2 and is committed to promoting them may apply to become a member of the Union. The European Parliament and national Parliaments shall be notified of this application. The applicant State shall address its application to the Council, which shall act unanimously after consulting the Commission and after receiving the assent of the European Parliament, which shall act by an absolute majority of its component members. The conditions of admission and the adjustments to the Treaties on which the Union is founded, which such admission entails, shall be the subject of an agreement between the Member States and the applicant State. This agreement shall be submitted for ratification by all the contracting States in accordance with their respective constitutional requirements. The conditions of eligibility agreed upon by the European Council shall be taken into account.
(My emphasis. We can't be towed anywhere, that much is true. Which means we will still be a European state. And article 2 is agreement to law, equality and human rights, so we'll not be vetoed on that.)

This thread is about impartial facts. I can't say the EU itself is impartial, but the facts are clear. Something Mr FT seems to have missed, or more likely misrepresented (or misspoken in parliamentary language). Or to use common parlance, lied about.

Awesome to see it enshrined in the Lisbon Treaty ;)

It comes down to 'do you want to be governed by London or Brussels?'. The rest is whataboutery.
Toby Young sums it all up perfectly in 14 minutes.

Kind of puts paid to the 'influence it from within' argument doesn't it, not to mention the 'we'll just carry on like before' one too.

We used to hang people for treason.

They're in full scale panic mode.

French economy minister says we'd be 'like Guernsey'. You'd think with 10% unemployment and endless strikes he'd have more to concern himself about than worrying about us. Except of course he isn't worrying about us, he's worrying about himself, France and the EU project.

Whilst that's not even worthy of parody what's more concerning is

'In the event of Brexit, Europe should "act fast to avoid other countries starting a similar process", he said.
"There must be no question of Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland, deciding they want the same status."

In other words, you'll do as we want, not what you want. Don't go getting any ideas, there shall be no escape.

I'm sure we fought wars to rid Europe of zealots like this.

Has Donald Trump said anything yet?

The French can stick their smelly cheese and rich sauces where the sun doesn't shine. Where were they in the war?

They don't like it up 'em!

FFS don't bring him into it, if he has said anything it'll no doubt be daft and will only give credence to the shitebags.

May I introduce Jean-Claude Juncker's deputy, Frans Timmermans? (1 min, 31 secs)

I'm pretty sure that the Nazis and the Communists also used to use the phrase "humanity's destiny" to justify their own authoritarian dictatorship...

Re:

Field Marshal Lord Guthrie has changed his mind and now wants the UK to get out -- apparently the EU's attempt to replace Nato isn't such a good idea after all...

And I forgot to post Pat Condell's no-nonsense summing-up of what's at stake (10 min, 23 secs)...
