And guess what I am riding??

Not Veloflex masters I take it

I was debating wether to run tubs or clinchers not exactly running vintage tyres or tubs so punctures maybe not so much of an issue…. maybe :?

Re:

Tubs. The only thing I don't like about them is punctures. I always use Vittoria Rallye tubs but once the rear one starts to lose it's tread, then you'd better bin it fast or a blow out is inevitable! I don't know about you lot but the tub glue these days seems to be industrial strength which makes removal of a dud tub ridiculously difficult! :?

Either that or I'm just getting old . .

I'd say puncturing is more likely than a typical road ride. I saw plenty of people fixing flats, sadly.

me and my pal were unluckly last year and had at least 6 between the two of us. yet as above saw plenty of people not have any.

oh and shameless plug for my "what you wearing / riding" post. lets see those bikes and outfits.

Re:

Unfortunately I have recently had some health problems and will not now be able to attend. Have a great time everyone and post loads of pictures. Perhaps I will be able to get there next year.

Re:

Martin's been put off by the idea of all those punctures, too! Sorry to hear you're not well, old chap. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I saw quite a few punctures and chain problems on the first 25 miles of the Etape Caledonia the other weekend. It's always a good idea to have brand new tyres fitted for any big event that you've invested time, training and money on - you want to maximise your chances of avoiding said blow-outs. The rest is up to luck and an avoidance of rough-stuff, which is why I would have to think twice about doing this event, which is a real shame.

Oh and I refuse to fit Michelin World Tour 27x1 1/4's!!

I suspect many of those with problems were as a result of poor preparation ... although bad luck with punctures cant be countered even with the best tyres.
