Ernie Clements Build

printed vinyl is silly expensive on one offs, possibly looking at 30 quid ish depending where you have it done and if you want clear or white.

Picked the frame up from the powder coaters this morning. Happy with the result. Applied the Reynolds decals using Peachys wet on wet technique which made life easier.
I might not bother with any downtube decals. It doesn't seem right using the old style from the '40s on an 1980s bike.
I trail fitted the shifters but couldn't get the right side bold in fully so I'm going to have to find someone with M4 tap to chase it out.

Going back to the question of the decals - H Lloyds can do custom ones from a supplied PDF. Obviously they cost more than ones they already stock, but as I recall they were reasonable considering. Worth it on a project like this, I'd say...

Bit of me time this morning so I stripped the Dawes. I couldn't resist loosely putting some parts onto the Clements to get an idea of how it will look. The tap and die set has been a worthwhile purchase all the frame threads have been chased out.
Waiting for a rear cable guide to arrive because I think the Clements frame was fitted with side pull brakes and the Galaxy is Weinmann centre pull.

Few more jobs ticked off the Clements/Galaxy hybrid. I've ditched the Galaxy Suntour VX friction mech and fitted a Shimano MT60 I had in my spares box and new index 6 speed cassette and shifters. Just the chain and cables to do now. I'm not bothering with mudguards. I'll either just ride it in the dry or put up with the brown stripe.

A few tweaks on the Clements today. I was never happy with the Weinmann brakes. I just couldn't get them to work properly so I decided to go side pull, which I think were on the frame originally. I'm guessing these Polygon brakes aren't high end but they were £5 delivered and inspire more confidence than the centre pull Weinmanns.

The brown saddle and bar tape look better with the sage green as long as you don't look too close at my dodgy bar wrapping. I wasn't going to have decals but saw this Designed by Ernie Clements decal on H Lloyd and thought it would finish off the frame.

There's not much of the Galaxy on it anymore. Just the front wheel, handlebars, stem and chainset, so I'm not sure if I can call it a Clements/Dawes hybrid now.
